The Five Best Wildlife Holidays in the World

If you are an animal lover there are many holiday destinations where you can see an abundance of wildlife in their natural habitats. Before you go check you have an up to date passport and visa, that you leave a copy of your itinerary with family and that you take out travel insurance.

Thailand

Thailand is home to the Khao Sok National Park which is the largest area of protected wildlife in southern Thailand. An area of amazing rainforest you can take a tour and explore the park from a canoe on the river. The rainforest itself is actually one of the oldest in the world and is home to a large variety of different animals, including tigers, leopards, elephants and bears.

South Africa

There are many different reserves and different wildlife parks all throughout the continent of Africa but one that should be visited is the Twasulu Kalahari Game Reserve that is located in the Northern Cape of South Africa. It is the largest privately owned reserve in South Africa and if you like to have a bit of your own space then you are sure to find it within this reserves one hundred thousand hectares. You can stay in one of the lodges, which accommodate only small groups. You will also be one of only six game viewing vehicles allowed in the reserve at once, ensuring that you can experience the wilderness and the wildlife in their natural environment. There is plenty of wildlife, with lions, elephants, zebra and bird life.

Australia

Australia is home to many unique forms of wildlife and a great place to see them is at the Croajingolong National Park in Victoria. The park has been classified as a World Biosphere reserve and is over eighty five thousand hectares. There are beautiful forests, beaches, rivers and estuaries, which are home to kangaroos, koalas, hundreds of different bird species, fish and other nocturnal animals. You can stay in the park and there is a variety of different accommodation to suit all budgets, including a boutique resort and caravan parks.

United States

The Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming in the United States covers an area of around nine thousand kilometres. Here you will find animals such as the bison, grizzly and black bears, mountain lions, moose, bobcats and wolves. You can explore the park on horse back if you wish, and there are specialised tours to help you do this.

Canada

For something different visit Vancouver for a spot of killer whale watching. Many of these large marine animals can be seen off the coast of Vancouver, particularly the distinctive Orca whales. Whales return every year to the waters in the area between the months of April and August, and you can take a boat tour out to see them. Visitors have a ninety percent chance of seeing whales on their trip, and some tour guides offer a repeat trip if whales are not spotted.
